New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary

Extension Centers Program
"Making Theological Education Accessible for All"

Our Mission

The mission of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary is to equip leaders to fulfill the Great Commission and the Great Commandments through the local church and its ministries.

Our Core Values

Doctrinal Integrity: Knowing that the Bible is the Word of God, we believe it, teach it, proclaim it, and submit to it. Our confessional commitments are outlined in the Articles of Religious Belief and the Baptist Faith and Message 2000.

Spiritual Vitality: We are a worshiping community emphasizing both personal spirituality and gathering together as a Seminary family for the praise and adoration of God and instruction in His Word.

Mission Focus: We are not here merely to get an education or to give one. We are here to change the world by fulfilling the Great Commission and the Great Commandments through the local church and its ministries.

Characteristic Excellence: What we do, we do to the utmost of our abilities and resources as a testimony to the glory of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Servant Leadership: We follow the model of Jesus and exert leadership and influence through the nurture and encouragement of those around us.

About the Extension Centers

Since 1982 New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary has been engaged in extension center work at the Graduate and Undergraduate levels. More than half of the pastors and staff members of Southern Baptist churches are not seminary trained. Many of these ministers are married with families and they cannot uproot their families to move to the campus in New Orleans. The traditional approach to theological education alone is no longer sufficient training for these God-called persons. The Seminary feels that it is our mission to provide as much help for these ministers as we possibly can, as near as possible to the scene of their church ministries. The South Georgia Extension Center, located at Sherwood Baptist Church, is set in the heart of Southwest Georgia providing the means for many pastors to fulfill their mission away from the home campus.

Delivery Systems

Classes: The teaching at the South Georgia Extension Center is done by commuting professors from the main campus, by on-campus professors using interactive television to teach students at the remote sites, and by adjunct professors who live near the site of each center. A careful balance is maintained among the three.

Academic Workshops: All extension center students must complete a certain number of required hours on the campus in New Orleans. Students may fulfill residency requirements by taking the classes in special one-week academic workshops available on the New Orleans Campus. These workshops meet Monday-Friday. You may find a complete, up-to-date schedule of Undergraduate and Graduate Workshops at www.nobts.edu.

Internet Courses: As a part of our commitment to make quality seminary training accessible to ministers and lay Christian leaders all over the world, regardless of their location, we want to provide theological education via the Internet that is comparable in quality to our on-campus classes. Internet courses are offered during the Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters. For additional information, check out the Online Courses link at www.nobts.edu.
